Wet rot - Asterostroma spp

Habitat:

Found on softwoods. Usually on joinery such as skirting boards, often limited in extent of spread.

Damage characteristics:

Wood becomes bleached and develops a stringy, fibrous appearance. No cuboidal cracking, does not crumble.

Fungal characteristics:

Mycelium White, cream or buff sheets, not always present.

Strands Thin, white with rough appearance. They remain flexible when dry, and can sometimes cross masonry over long distances.

Fruit-body is thin, sheet-like, hardly distinguishable from mycelium. There are no pores.
