A moisture-resistant pre-treated flooring grade boarding was laid directly onto the membrane. |
All joints glued, cut out for the sump.
|
Finished floor. Note the upstands for the wall/floor joint. |

|
Next was the installation of the wall membrane. This is Platon PJ. |
This is 'curtain hung' from the ceiling fixings and laid behind the wall/floor joint. |
The vertical sheets are sealed together with Platon sealing rope. |

And retained by plugs. |
The wall/floor joint can now be sealed to the vertical membrane, again with sealing rope. |

The membranes are firmly fixed to the walls by batons, using special plugs. This is now the finish to accept plasterboard.
|
The next job was removing the rotted floors of the ground floor. Here we see the oak joists with chipboard covering. The death watch beetle in its need to come out of the timber will bite its way through just about anything, except brickwork. I have even see the damage they caused to lead valleys, where they have bitten through the lead, causing massive water ingress into the roof. |
The arrow points to a death watch beetle emerging out of chipboard. It is supporting itself with its front legs as it pushes its way out of the timber. This is a very rare sight to see, so tell your friends! And this emergence was in November 2005, showing how global warming is changing beetle life cycles.

|
All the floors were removed and reinstated with pre-treated joists and tounge and groove floor boarding. You can see by the painted skirting board line how much we took off the base of the studding to get a level floor. |
The basement membranes are then extended through the ground floor and fixed to the walls.
|
Finishing works to the basement. Ready for plaster boarding.
