Timber beam-end engineering repairs - Project 4 A very nasty dry rot attack to a series of oak lintels. Click on any of the images for a larger view. |

|
Note the curvature of the beam. |
Once the dry rot was scraped off it became apparent that the central lintel had snapped into two sections. The problem was to remove and reinstate a new oak beam, with full bearing end support, without the removal of the internal lintel.
|
The mid section lintel was carefully cut out and laid on the scaffold. You can see the curvature of the lintel and the amount of loss due to the fungal attack. |

Beam removed. Note header brickwork. |
The lintel was wrapped in cling film and taken to Propery Repair Systems. This allowed for a precise manufacture of the replacement. |

Curvature of the beam, with beam end. |
Chris Barratt on the left, wearing the summer deck chair, with David Moore (Property Repair Systems) looking important, after lots of tea. I decided that the beam would be made in three sections. This would allow for the right and left hand sections to be installed first a central gutter type to fill in the gap. |

One problem that had to be overcome was how the resin was to be poured into the channel. You might see that one of the header bricks was taken out to allow for a shute to be placed into the channel, allowing the resin to be poured in. Simple ideas always work. |

Slowly pouring the resin. |
Viewed through the brickwork, you can see the central channel filled with resin. |

More in depth treatment by injection and the finished job.
Very nice, even if I say so myself. |
