Wet rot - Phellinus contiguus

Habitat:

Softwoods and hardwoods. Common on external joinery.

Damage characteristics:

Wood bleaches and develops a string-like, fibrous appearance. There is no cuboidal cracking and it does not crumble.

Fungal characteristics:

Mycelium Tawny-brown tufts - they may be found around the fruit-body or in crevices in the wood.

Strands None

Fruit-body Occasionally found. It is tough, elongated, coloured ochre to dark brown and covered in minute pores.
